GEORGE TOWN: A Singaporean permanent resident here, who is alleged to be the one who filmed the Malaysian Nude Sports Games 2014 video, has been remanded.
Named as Albert Yam in the video, he was among four others remanded until Aug 19 to assist in investigations.
All of them were detained after turning themselves in at the Southwest district police headquarters at various times yesterday with Yam surrendering at 6pm.
Two of those remanded were women while one of them is a 30-year-old Singapore citizen.
Southwest district police chief Supt Lai Fah Hin said investigations were carried out under Section 117 of the Penal Code for abetting the commission of an offence by the public.
“Investigations are also being conducted under Section 509 of the Penal Code for gestures intended to insult the modesty of a person,” he said.
The latest development comes after Penang police gave an ultimatum to those involved in the nude fest at a secluded beach of the Penang National Park to surrender or face action.
Meanwhile, Yam had reportedly issued an apology over the matter in a letter published in a Mandarin language daily today.
He was quoted as saying that the group was sorry for holding the event in Penang.
“We will ensure that we will not do it again and please accept our deepest apologies,” he was reported as saying.
