Monthly assembly meeting abruptly cancelled

SHAH ALAM: The monthly assembly of Selangor civil servants in the State Secretariat building was abruptly cancelled today as the state leadership dispute continues.
The assembly was supposed to start at 8am, but an e-mail from Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim's office on the cancellation was only sent to media organisations at 7.40am.
"The scheduled monthly assembly... organised by Yayasan Selangor has been cancelled for unavoidable reasons," the statement said without giving details.
By 8.30am, hundreds of civil servants had already gathered in Dewan Jubli Perak, waiting for Khalid to open the assembly as usual. Khalid did not turn up.
Instead, an official from Yayasan Selangor took the stage and announce that the assembly has been cancelled.
Rumours were abound that Khalid will be flying to Budapest, Hungary, to meet Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah to request the dissolution of the state assembly.
While it has been confirmed that Khalid had requested a meeting, Sultan Sharafuddin replied that he will only meet Khalid when he is back home on Aug 27.
