An alternative, not U-turn: PAS

PETALING JAYA: We are seeking an alternative and not turning back on our decision.
Refuting allegations in the media that PAS has gone back on its word pertaining to the ongoing Selangor mentri besar issue, its national youth chief Suhaizan Kaiat said that the decision the party had made was an alternative as the original decision was no longer viable.
"Originally, the decision to accept Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim as Selangor MB was based on his capability to administer the state as well as the risk of retaining him as MB is much lower than dropping him.
"But when he is no longer a PKR member after being sacked by the party, it also means that he is no longer a Pakatan Rakyat member. Hence, the party realises that PAS's tahalluf siyasi (political cooperation) is with PKR and DAP and not with Khalid, so that is when PAS decided to seek a new alternative which is to reject him (Khalid)," he said in a statement yesterday, adding that the new decision by PAS should be seen as moving forward instead of turning back.
Suhaizan explained that the party decided to nominate PKR deputy president Azmin Ali alongside PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as candidates for the MB post to allow an alternative choice in the event of the palace rejecting Wan Azizah as MB candidate.
"Although we can name any of our members as alternative to Wan Azizah, we decided not to due to the spirit of brotherhood in the coalition," he said.
Suhaizan hoped that Pakatan component parties and the public would stop questioning PAS's intention or motive in the MB issue.
