NIBONG TEBAL: Police are seeking the cooperation of the public to locate a four-year-old boy, Sakil Bul Bul Mia (pix), who was reported missing in George Town since 5pm last Thursday.
Penang Police deputy chief Datuk A. Thaiveegan said the boy was reported missing after being left by his father, a Bangladeshi worker, at their house at 56 Jalan 3, Lebuh Presgrave, Georgetown, near here.
"According to the father's report, he left his son at home to buy food from a nearby stall.
"When he returned, the boy, who is his only child with his ex-wife who is an Indonesian, was not there. He tried to search for him around the neighbourhood area, but to no avail."
Thaiveegan said this to reporters here today after attending the handing over of duties to the new Seberang Prai Selatan police chief Supt Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad, who is replacing ACP Shafien Mamat.
Thaiveegan said the boy's father, who has been working as a construction worker in the state over the past five years, lodged the missing-person report at Jalan Patani police station on the same day the boy went missing.
"The father said Sakil, who was born in Malaysia, usually stayed with his friend's wife when he went out to work. After work, he would go out to buy food and leave the boy home alone. This is the first time the boy went missing," he said.
Police had also distributed the photofit of the boy and hoped that the public with information of his whereabouts would contact Insp Khor Kang Learn at 017-3558477 or 04-2181822 or the nearest police station to facilitate investigation. – Bernama
