JOHOR BARU: Police detained a husband and wife for impersonating as Rela officers to carry out criminal activities in the city.
Johor CID chief Datuk Hasnan Hassan said the couple, aged 22 and 17, were in a car when policemen on crime prevention patrol detained them at 12.45am on Aug 10.
"Both were behaving suspiciously and when police closed in on them, they tried to flee the scene," he told reporters at the Johor police headquarters here today.
Hasnan said following the arrest, police seized a fake gun, Rela uniform, handcuff, three knives, tools used for breaking into houses, a laptop, various identity cards and ATM cards that belonged to different people.
Initial investigations revealed that the couple, who also tested positive for methamphetamine, had four previous criminal records for impersonating as Rela officers to rob foreigners. – Bernama
