(Review) Doll Bones

AUTHOR Holly Black, who is best known for The Spiderwick Chronicle series, definitely knows how to write a captivating paranormal novel.
Not only will this novel attract children’s imagination with all its many creepy events, even adults will be entranced as well. I found myself hooked although I may not be the intended audience.
Doll Bones tells the story of Zach, Poppy and Alice, who have been friends forever. They love playing with their figurine toys, imagining a magical world of adventure and heroism.
But disaster strikes when Zach’s father throws out all the toys. Furious, confused and embarrassed, Zach decides that the only way to cope with the loss of the toys is by not playing or being friends with both Poppy and Alice.
But one night, the girls pay Zach a visit and tell him about a series of mysterious occurrences. Poppy swears that she is now being haunted by a china doll and that it is made of ground-up bones of a murdered girl.
They must now return the doll to where the girl lived and to try and bury it there. Otherwise, the three children will be cursed for eternity.
The story has the potential to send a chill down the spine and readers will be drawn to finish it once they start.
This is certainly an adventurous ghost story for young readers and easy to follow for beginners. But this book is recommended also for any age.
