IPOH: Twelve houses in Kampung Tersusun Buntong were damaged when the foundation of their houses started sinking since the houses were build on an old dumpsite.
One of the house was so badly damaged that the Fire and Rescue Department has declared it (unsafe for occupancy) and had asked the occupants to move out said Buntong state assemblyman A. Sivasubramaniam.
"Luckily there are no life lost. I will ask the state government to relocate them since the place is not safe.
"Most of the residents there had used their Employees Provident Fund (EPF) to build their houses. These are poor people and urge the government to act before anything serious happens," he said.
The distraught residents feel that the state government had shortchanged them by giving them a former dumpsite to build their homes.
One of the residents, A. Sutharan, 74, who has been living in the area since 1994 said during the 4.30pm incident yesterday, he and his family members were outside the house that started sinking.
"Three days ago we heard cracking noises when it was raining heavily. We have since moved out and staying with our relatives," he told Bernama, here today.
M. Mogavalli, 36, said she feared for the safety of her family, especially her three children, aged between 5 and 9 since her ceiling and sitting area were damaged.
"This is my only house and I do not have anywhere else to stay. We have lodged numerous reports, they have come to inspect but we are still waiting for a positive action," she said. – Bernama
