IPOH: A scantily clad couple who caused a stir in the city and had their photo shoot posted on the social media, was fined RM400 each in the magistrate's court today for causing public nuisance.
Low Kah Wai, 27, from Taman Mayang Jaya, Petaling Jaya, and How Jo Yee, 21, from Taman Tasek Bukit Payong, Marang, Terengganu, pleaded guilty to the charge and later paid the fine.
The models were jointly charged with causing public nuisance at the traffic light in front of CIMB bank at Jalan Sultan Yusuff at 9am on Aug 25.
After pleading guilty, DPP Harris Ong Mohd Jeffery Ong told the court that Low was wearing a pair of long black pants and shoes, and was without a shirt, while How was wearing panties and a white bra.
A report was later lodged by sergeant-major Jamaluddin Mahmud and the couple was arrested on Aug 26.
Harris asked the court to impose an appropriate sentence to serve as a lesson so that such incidents would not happen in public places.
"Although individuals have their rights, we cannot accept such acts in a multi-racial society," he added.
Counsel Andrew Soong, who represented the couple, said they had no intention to publicise the act and did not post it on the social media.
"It was the public who recorded the shoot and posted it, and the post was carried in the social media," he added.
Magistrate Haslinda Ab Raof fined Loh and How RM400 each, in default one month's jail.
