PUTRAJAYA: The government is trying to bring back the remains of nine MH17 victims on Sept 2, including that of two foreigners and a child.
Malaysian armed forces chief Jen Tan Sri (Dr) Zulkifeli Mohd Zin said the remains of three victims will be sent to Penang, one each to Teluk Intan and Seremban, four to areas in the Klang Valley.
He said the remains will arrive at the Bunga Raya Complex of the KL International Airport from Amsterdam in five caskets and four urns.
The remains of four victims will be flown to Penang and Perak, and the others will be transported from KLIA via hearses after a full military honours ceremony is held, on the same day.
"The confirmation of the remains are pending due to various factors," he said, adding that Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein is expected to announce the final details on the third batch of remains on Sept 1.
Zulkifeli said the two foreign nationals, whose nationalities have not been revealed yet, will be brought to Malaysia together with the remains of their spouses.
"The countries of the two foreign nationals have given the approval for their remains to be brought to Malaysia together with their Malaysian spouses," he told reporters after chairing the MH17 victims coordination committee meeting at the Civil Aviation Department building today.
He said the remains of the two foreigners will come in a casket and an urn, each draped in their national flags.
To date, the remains of 24 Malaysian victims have been brought back to the country.
While 22 victims were given the full military honours, two others were received by their kin in private.
