Wan Azizah, Azmin remain PAS’s likeliest choices

PETALING JAYA: PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and deputy president Azmin Ali remain PAS's likeliest choices for the Selangor mentri besar position.
This was disclosed by PAS central committee member Khalid Samad today.
The disclosure followed PAS's announcement on Wednesday that the party will not nominate one of their own for the post, "as it belongs to PKR".
PAS had, at its central committee meeting on Aug 17, nominated Wan Azizah and Azmin as its first and second choice respectively, although Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and DAP had backed Wan Azizah, who is Kajang assemblyman, as their sole candidate for the mentri besar post.
However, Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, decreed on Tuesday that PKR, DAP, and PAS each nominate not fewer than two names for the post after Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim had an audience with him and submitted his resignation.
The Sultan deferred on accepting Khalid's resignation until a new mentri besar has been appointed and Khalid is to perform his duties as usual in the mean time.
Yesterday, Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim declared that PKR's decision to nominate only Wan Azizah for the mentri besar post as final.
