GEORGE TOWN: A molotov cocktail was thrown into the residence of Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng at Jalan Pinhorn here yesterday night.
The family was unaware of the incident until informed by the police.
His press secretary Wong Kim Fei said Lim was preparing to go to bed when the police rang the doorbell of his house and told him what had happened.
“Police have recorded his (Lim) statement and that of his family,” he told reporters when met at the Lebuh Pantai police station.
A motorcyclist is believed to have thrown the molotov cocktail over the gate of the house at about 11.45pm.
It landed in the car park area and there was no damage or injury to anyone.
Police have recovered a bottle and a wick at the scene and investigators are reviewing close circuit television (CCTV) footage for clues.
This is not the first time Lim has been targeted by extremist elements.
In December 2011, a group of people had tried to send him a birthday cake looking like human feces at his office in Komtar.
In May 2012, right wing group Perkasa staged a mock funeral outside the Lim’s residence.
