Promoting health care excellence

LINCOLN University College recently organised its second international conference on recent advances in health sciences titled "Contemporary Health Care ... How To Do It Right". The event served as a platform for various health care professionals to share and explore recent advances in the field of health sciences. The objective of the conference was aimed at:
• exploring innovative strategies for developing and evaluating modern approaches in health sciences in international diverse communities;
• encouraging international interdisciplinary discussion and debate in contemporary health;
• promoting international networking for participants who may share certain interests; and
• encouraging lifelong professional development.
Apart from talks and dissertations by a host of senior professors and health care professional from Malaysia, Allied Health Sciences Division director under the Malaysian Health Ministry Datuk Tan Yoke Hwa also delivered a presentation.
However, the spotlight was steered towards Prof Emeritus Dr Harald Zur Hausen, a Nobel Laureate who took the stage and addressed the audience. As a German virologist and professor emeritus, it was his research on cancer of the cervix where he discovered the role of papilloma viruses, that won him the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2008.
At the interactive forum, participants shared and discussed various approaches of modern health care practices to promote excellence in the industry. This conference was held in succession of the first international conference on allied health science in 2011, on trends and the impact of health professionals on society.
