Fairview International School Penang (FISP) held its annual Honours Day celebration recently. It is one of the most anticipated events of the year as it brings together amazing performances, and recognition of academic excellence and achievements.
Three Honours Day awards were given to students from every class in the Middle Years Programme (MYP). These are the IB Model Student, Learner of the Year, and the Exemplary Performance Award.
There were also three Honours Day awards given to students from every class in the Primary Years Programme (PYP). These were the Global Citizen, Outstanding Effort, and the Exemplary Performance Award.
This year’s theme “Creativity Unleashed”, provided a timely reminder that human creativity is something to be nurtured. The music and performances of the evening showcased a wide array of songs and dance inspired by inventions and cultures spanning the breadth of human history. The children involved came from all reaches of the world, and embarked on a journey of self-discovery and exploration.
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme is a compilation of best practices promoting international mindedness in an increasingly globalised world. It focuses on bringing out the best in the school’s learners through 10 key learner profiles—values that build global citizens.
At Fairview, students are taught to become inquirers, thinkers, communicators, and to be courageous, knowledgeable, principled, caring, open-minded, balanced, and reflective.
Thus, students are not just assessed through traditional exams but are monitored and encouraged through progressive assessments, including added importance to co-curricular activities and Fine Arts.
FISP is an authorised International Baccalaureate World School for both the Primary Years and Middle Years Programmes.
The school provides its students with the proper atmosphere and learning environment, and is equipped with up-to-date teaching tools and technology to give students an experience in the concept-driven inquiry approach encouraged by the IB organisation.
In embracing the IB Programme, FISP has moved into another realm of education, helping students to make practical and meaningful connections to their lives with learning in school. This heralds a new era in learning as rote learning becomes a thing of the past.
