MH17: Najib hopes families of victims will remain strong

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak (pix) said today he hoped that the families of the MH17 tragedy victims who received the remains of their loved ones today would remain strong.
"I pray that the families of the victims of MH17 that are here today to receive their loved ones remain strong in this time of grief," he said in a tweet.
The remains of nine MH17 victims - seven Malaysians and two Dutch nationals - were accorded honours when they were flown from Amsterdam to the Bunga Raya Complex of the KL International Airport (KLIA) today.
Altogether, the remains of 31 Malaysians and two Dutch nationals had been brought to Malaysia. On Aug 22, the first batch of 20 remains were brought back while on Aug 23 and 24, the remains of four Malaysians were brought home.
Flight MH17 crashed in eastern Ukraine on July 17 as it was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur with 283 passengers and 15 crew on board.
The Boeing 777-200 aircraft is believed to have been shot down over the troubled country. Besides 43 Malaysians, nationals from the Netherlands, Australia, Indonesia, the United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, the Philippines, Canada and New Zealand were among the 298 people on board. – Bernama
