MH17 pilot Captain Wan Amran laid to rest

SHAH ALAM: Capt Wan Amran Wan Hussin, the pilot of MH17, would have turned 50 today. But instead of meeting for a joyous celebration, family and friends gathered for his funeral at Section 21 Muslim cemetery grounds.
His two sons, Wan Yunus Uzair, 11, and Wan Yusuf Irfan, nine, could not hold back their tears as soils were strewn into the grave, while their mother Mariam Yusuf watched in sorrow as the casket holding his remains was lowered to his grave.
Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim and Selangor Umno liaison chief Datuk Seri Noh Omar were among some 300 people who attended funeral.
Wan Amran's casket, which was draped in a Malaysia flag, was laid to rest at around 11.25am, followed by recital of prayers led the acting Grand Imam of Sultan Salehuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, Mohd Hatta Ahmad.
Mariam, when met by reporters, said she was glad that the remains of her late husband was brought back and buried at home.
"We are glad that he was safely buried. The pouring rain just now is a sign of blessing (rahmat)," she said, referring to the heavy rain at the repatriation ceremony at the Bunga Raya Complex earlier at KLIA.
Among those who turned up to pay their last respects were some 50 MAS personnel.
To Capt Johanuddin Othman and Capt Ahmad Farid Osman, colleagues of Wan Amran for 25 years, the MH17 pilot was a kind hearted man and a good friend to the other.
"He might seem like a quiet guy, but as you get to know him better, Wan Amran was actually very kind and like to help others in need," Johanuddin said.
