Farewell Sanjid

GEORGE TOWN: Some 20 friends and family members were on hand to bid farewell to MH17 victim Sanjid Singh as his ashes were scattered at the waters off the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Bridge today.
The ashes of the 41-year-old flight attendant was kept in an urn drapped in a red cloth and held by a relative.
Also present was his father, Jijar, who held unto his grandson, 10-year-old Hans Singh, while the ashes were strewn into the sea at about 10.20am.
A Sikh priest had administered the final rites about five minutes before Sanjid was placed in his final resting place.
His grieving family and friends had earlier arrived at the Northern Region Marine Police Base in Batu Uban here and was received by Penang Welfare and Caring Society Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh and state Housing Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh.
They were also received by a host of police officers, including Penang deputy police chief Datuk A. Thaiveegan, before they were ushered unto a marine police boat to take them to their destination.
Thaiveegan said Jijar had expressed his thanks to the police for allowing the family to conduct the ceremony at sea.
He said the family of the deceased felt grateful that Sanjid was allowed such an honour for his final journey.
"Jijar was honoured and thankful for this," he said when the media asked him if the family had expressed anything to the police over the ceremony which ended at 11am.
