GEORGE TOWN: Malaysia is benefiting from recovering Western economies with a 13% growth in the electrical and electronics (E&E) sector for the first half of this year.
International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapha Mohamed (pix) said this was in line with the industrial production index (IPI) which recorded an uptick of 15%.
He said this development bode well for Malaysia as the E&E sector made up a third of all Malaysian exports.
He attributed three factors the country had for the positive development comprising good infrastructure, macroeconomic stability and political stability.
"We are a nation of moderates where common sense prevails, enabling us to progress as a nation," he said in his speech today when opening Motorola Solution Malaysia Sdn Bhd's innovation facility (Innoplex) at the Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone (FIZ) here.
Innoplex is the largest R&D facility outside the USA where the mobile communications provider is based. Its seven floors and 21,088 sq meters will house 1,200 engineers.
The centre is focused on developing next generation mission-critical Land Mobile Radio (LMR), broadband LTE devices and system solutions.

Motorola Solutions managing director Dr Hari Narayanan said the company had spent more than USD20million (RM63.73million) on establishing the centre.
"Motorola is focused on bringing the advantages of digital communications technology to its clients," he said.
