PETALING JAYA: Just a day after the Selangor palace rapped PKR and DAP for nominating only one name for the mentri besar post, DAP has apologised to the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
Its secretary-general, Lim Guan Eng, said the decision to nominate PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail was made after discussing with PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
"The decision was made following the convention used in the appointment of (Tan Sri) Abdul Khalid Ibrahim as Selangor mentri besar in 2013, the statutory declaration signed by 30 assemblymen out of 56 in the State Legislative Assembly, and the consensus (among) Pakatan Rakyat (parties) to have PKR assemblymen for the mentri besar post," he said in a statement.
Reiterating DAP's loyalty to the royal institution, Lim said that he will discuss with Anwar on the content of the statement from the palace.
On Sept 8, a palace statement, signed by Sultan Sharafuddin's private secretary, Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani, said the act by PKR and DAP to submit only one name was an "act of treason".
The statement said that Sultan Sharafuddin was "very disappointed" with the action of the two parties in disobeying his decree.
It also said that the action of PKR and DAP was insolent and tantamount to contempt of the royalty.
Meanwhile, Bernama reports that the Terengganu PAS liaison committee has expressed its support for the party's Ulama Syura Council's stand of defending the decision-making power of PAS president Abdul Seri Abdul Hadi Awang over the list of candidates for the Selangor MB post.
Its secretary, Muhyidin Abdul Rashid, said Hadi had the power to make decisions on matters that involve the party's interest as provided under clause 26(1)(a) of the PAS constitution.
"Therefore, we urge that the PAS central working committee and party leaders at all levels and members to be responsible and carry out all the decisions and directives issued by the PAS president," he said in a statement.
