Hari Malaysia is unity in diversity

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Day which held on Sept 16 yearly is to commemorate the establishment of the Malaysian federation on the same date in 1963.
It also call as the celebration of "unity in diversity". It is rare to find any other country in the world other than Malaysia possessing such great unity and harmony among the people of all races, cultures and religions.
With over 30 ethnic groups embracing diverse cultures, religions and over 20 languages and dialects, one can hardly imagine how a nation can keep these communities united.
Today, four from a group of members of different backgrounds and professions who are outdoor enthusiasts and fondly known as "The Nutters" among closes friends shared their opinion on Hari Malaysia with theSun.
"Malaysia is my upbringing, my alma mater, my profession, my home. I am proud of it, warts and all," said Farilla Abdullah, 38, chief operating officer of Touch & Go.
For Matt Marzuki, 40, who owns a photography studio, Malaysia Day is celebrating citizens of all races, across races and in the same race, tolerating each other and genuinely coexisting with one another with the understanding that this nation was built by hard work and sacrifice of our forefathers be it Malay, Indian or Chinese as well as other races.
Arlyn Aveline, 38, a media practitioner, said Merdeka is a day to celebrate our independence, Hari Malaysia is a day where we celebrate the uniqueness of diversity of our multi-cultural and multi-racial society.
For Mohd Azrul Mohd Nor, 33, an entrepreneur, Malaysia means freedom and harmony and "I am grateful to be born in Malaysia."
