Kuala Nerus declared eighth district in Terengganu

KUALA NERUS: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak today declared Kuala Nerus as the eighth district in Terengganu.
Announcing this in his speech at the ground-breaking ceremony for the University Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) Teaching Hospital project in Gong Badak today, Najib said giving Kuala Nerus district status was timely as it had good public infrastructure amenities.
"I feel all unanimously want this. I am happy to announce that the government has agreed to upgrade Kuala Nerus as a new district.
"With this historic announcement, the people of Kuala Nerus will get two things - the UniSZA Teaching Hospital and new district status," he said.
Also present were Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman, Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia Datuk Jailani Johari, UniSZA Pro-Chancellor Tan Sri Datuk Dr Mohamad Yusof Mohamed Nor and its vice-chancellor Datuk Dr Yahaya Ibrahim.
Amidst thunderous applause from the public, Najib also thanked the Mentri Besar for planning the New Transformation of Terengganu which would bring more development to the state.
Kuala Nerus, which is 39,890 hectares in size and has a population of 200,000, is fast developing as a location for institutes of higher education and skills as well as various industries, housing projects and the Sultan Mahmud Airport.
Before this, the were seven districts in Terengganu namely Kuala Terengganu, Besut, Setiu, Marang, Hulu Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Razif thanked the Prime Minister for the historic announcement making Kuala Nerus a new district.
Ahmad Razif said the announcement was much-awaited by the people of Kuala Nerus which qualified to be the eighth district in Terengganu. – Bernama
