Moderate earthquake hits Irian Jaya in Indonesia

KUALA LUMPUR: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale occurred in the Irian Jaya Region, Indonesia at 2.27am today, reported the Malaysian Meteorological Department.
The epicentre of the quake was 356km northeast of Sorong, Indonesia and 1,869km southeast of Semporna, Sabah, it said. The department said the quake did not trigger a tsunami threat. – Bernama
