SHAH ALAM: The appointment of the new Selangor Mentri Besar could have been done sooner if it was not for the internal political struggle in PKR and non-understanding among Pakatan Rakyat parties in nominating the names.
The Selangor Sultan's private secretary Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani, in a statement, said the refusal of DAP and PKR to abide by the conditions in the Aug 27 letter from the palace had made it cumbersome for the Sultan, who had to look into other candidates who were not appointed by PKR.
"The Sultan does not delay in the appointment of an important post in the state," he said.
However, Munir added that the Sultan believes PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali as the new Mentri Besar will receive full support not only from the party, but also from DAP and PAS, to form a coalition government to govern over Selangor.
"Azmin had lived in Kampung Klang Gate Baru, Hulu Kelang since 1968, and his appointment was based on several important factors.
"The Sultan had taken into consideration that the Selangor government consist of three component parties of PR.
"The Sultan had taken into consideration that the MB chosen should be among the PKR assemblymen who has the majority trust and support from the Selangor PR assemblymen," he said.
Munir also refuted statements that the Sultan had interfered with the state administration.
"Except for advising the Mentri Besar, the Sultan does not interfere with the state administration," he said, adding that the appointment of the Mentri Besar is based on the Selangor state legislative.
The Sultan expressed hope that Azmin will be able to carry out his duty as a Mentri Besar responsibly, honestly and sincerely with integrity, prioritising the people of Selangor and its state administration first.
