GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng plans to sue the New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd for defamation over an article in regard to funding of the state voluntary patrol unit (PPS).
In his notice of action to the publisher on Sept 11, Lim wanted NSTP to publish a front page apology over the article.
The notice said Lim had on Sept 6 denied the state spent RM1.5 billion on PPS and had stated the state government had RM1.2 billion in reserves and not RM1.5 million as printed on Sept 7.
The notice also said a piece on Sept 8 made no mention of Lim denying the state spent RM1.5 billion on the PPS and the exact amount of reserves.
The notice said both articles when read together had put Lim in a negative light and were therefore defamatory.
"They have not fulfilled the conditions as stated in the notice. I mean business, when I say I will take action," he said.
