Kedah can be a big exporter of honey in country

ALOR STAR: Kedah has the potential to become one of the largest producers of honey in the country as there are many activities related to it in the state.
Kedah Women's Development, Community Welfare, Agriculture and Agro-Based and Entrepreneur Development Committee chairman Datuk Suraya Yaacob said there were more than 150 entrepreneurs involved in bee breeding in Kedah.
At the same time, she said, honey was also collected from wild bees at the Pedu Forest Reserve in Padang Terap.
"Malaysia, especially Kedah state, has flora which can produce pollens needed by the bees and these are available throughout the year," she said, adding that she hoped Kedah would become a major producer of honey products.
Speaking to reporters after officiating the Young Agropreneur Project Package Roadshow, Northern Region, here yesterday, Suraya said the state government through the Agriculture Department and other agencies under the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry, would carry out the Young Agropreneur Honey Project to increase the production of quality honey. – Bernama
