PUTRAJAYA: Malaysians living in Hong Kong's special administrative region are reported to be safe, however Wisma Putra is monitoring the situation there following the latest protests in its central business area.
"At present, Malaysia's consulate-general in Hong Kong has confirmed that there are no reports of Malaysians, including students, being arrested or injured in the protests," said Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman in a statement today.
However, he advised Malaysians in Hong Kong to be extra vigilant and to take all necessary precautions for their personal safety by avoiding the various sites of assembly and large public gatherings to avoid any untoward incidents.
"It is also advisable for Malaysians travelling to Hong Kong to inform our consulate-general of their presence in the country," he said.
He added the Malaysian consulate was in close contact with the Hong Kong authorities to provide regular updates on the situation.
    Malaysians requiring assistance can contact Malaysia's consulate-general at + 852-6900 6390 or email malhkong@kln.gov.my.
