Azmin Ali announces portfolios of state excos

SHAH ALAM: Selangor's new Mentri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali today announced the portfolios of the executive councillors (excos) in the state administration.
He said the lineup involved some rebranding to raise the performance of the state government.
"The state government took the decision to embark on rebranding of some portfolios so as to further improve the delivery system of the new state administration," he told reporters after chairing the first state executive meeting here today.
Asked why there were changes in the portfolios of senior excos, Azmin said this was discussed by the leaders of the three parties in Pakatan Rakyat, made up of PKR, DAP and PAS, and were made based on the expertise and experience they (excos) had.
He cited the portfolio given to Datuk Teng Chang Khim (Investment, Industry (SMEs), Trade and Transport as an example, saying the state government viewed this as very important because SMIs were vital for economic growth in Selangor.
"Teng for example will be able play a more significant role in investment and industry, issues on SMEs in Selangor are very important to support economic growth ... while he gives attention to attracting investment, he is also given the responsibility to expand growth of SMEs in the state," he said.
Teng, when Azmin's predecessor Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim was the mentri besar, held the Local Government, Studies and Research portfolio.
According to Azmin, another exco, Iskandar Abdul Samad, was given back his old portfolio but "with a new breath of life".
The 10 excos were sworn-in before Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah of Selangor last Friday.
