Moderate earthquake hits Japan's Kuril Islands

    KUALA LUMPUR: A moderate earthquake, with a magnitude of 5.3 on the Richter scale, occurred at 8.34am today in the Kuril Islands of Japan, the Malaysian Meteorological Department reported.
    The epicentre of the quake was 439km northeast of Asahikawa, Japan, and 5,154km northeast of Kudat, Sabah, it said in a statement. The quake did not pose any tsunami threat, it added. – Bernama
