MBPJ budget focuses on three sectors

PETALING JAYA: The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) will focus on three key development sectors involving three key players – local government, private sector and public – in its Budget 2015.
The sectors to be focused are urban economic development, social development activities and public security and environmental focus.
MBPJ mayor Datin Paduka Alinah Ahmad said next year budget direction has been designed according to the needs of public and in line with the Petaling Jaya Local Agenda 21.
"The Council will continue to promote the development of infrastructure such as roads, irrigation and drainage sanitation services throughout the Petaling Jaya.
"In 2015, the council will also provide a budget 'deficit' to ensure that surplus funds be returned to the people as it will be used for their benefit ," she said.
On Friday (Oct 3) a total of RM371 million budget was proposed and it was agreed by the councillors.
Alinah said the direction will focus on sustainable development which includes sustainable infrastructure, environment, traffic management, lifestyle and good governance.
She, however, stressed that improving the maintenance work as the theme for the next year "Amalan Budaya Menyelenggara" (Practice of Maintenance Culture).
"As a result, the overall sum of RM20.48 million has been allocated to ensure the development works and maintenance of drainage and irrigation, public building or facility maintenance and emergency works in Petaling Jaya be carried out which will benefit and have an impact on public.
"Council will also pay serious attention to improving the cleaning services, collection of solid waste, security issues, urban poverty problems and facilities for people with disabilities," she said.
To improve the traffic management and mobility, she pointed out that a total of RM8.9 million will be allocated in stages for the feeder bus services, road lamps' maintenance and walkways upgrade.
She said efforts are being made to provide good public transport besides promoting the use of bicycles and pedestrian walkways.
she added the council will also give focus to strengthen the governance system and services integrity so as to achieve excellence performance index.
Alinah said programme such as mobile office, "PJ Livable and Lovable City" and 1 year free parking scheme for every purchase of hybrid car will be continued.
As to the Rain Water Harvesting System (SPAH), she said, the project is in line with the vision of MBPJ to get recognition for its headquarters as the green building by the end of 2015.
