SUNGAI BULOH: Construction work on the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) guideway for the proposed Sungai Buloh station has resumed and is expected to be completed by December, 2016.
It was halted following the incident on Aug 18 when a single track viaduct deck span of the guideway collapsed killing three Bangladeshi workers who were crushed beneath it.
MMC-Gamuda KVMRT (PDP) Sdn. Bhd deputy construction director Adil Putra Ahmad said the stop-work order for the works at the site, which covers Sungai Buloh-Kota Damansara, was fully lifted on Sept 17 by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) which had still to release its full investigation report on the incident.
However, he said that despite the lifting of the order the company would resume its work in stages as the contractors complied with the construction requirements.
"The toppled span will be reinstated by the end of October and the parapet installation, which is temporarily put on hold, will start to be re-installed by next week after reviewing the method to be used," he told reporters during a site visit to the incident spot today to highlight the company's zero tolerance programme and its safety improvements at MRT worksites which were implemented earlier this year.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the company and its sub-contractor, Syarikat Muhibbah Perniagaan & Pembinaan (SMPP) Sdn Bhd, to ensure the best safety measures were being taken at worksites after the incident.
SMPP Sdn Bhd managing director Ku Haris Ku Mahmud said they were now personally involved in regular site safety walks with the project delivery partners and supervising consultants to ensure the workers follow the established work methods.
