klia2 targets 50% Bumiputera outlets by 2018

    SEPANG: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (Malaysia Airports) has targeted to raise Bumiputera's participation in business at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) from 35% to 50% by 2018, said its Managing Director, Datuk Badlisham Ghazali.
    He asserted that the 35% involvement was high compared with that of shopping malls which registered only between 5% and 10% Bumiputera's participation.
    Malaysia Airports is committed to increasing the Bumiputera's participation at klia2 to 38% by the end of 2014, he said at its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme at klia2 here today.
    Under the CSR, Malaysia Airports in collaboration with the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, gave opportunities to six Bumiputera entrepreneurs to operate food and beverage kiosks and provide other services at klia2.
    The outlets are Agro Bazaar, Santai Reflexology, Chill Malaysia, mysouvenirs.com, Rasa Tid Bits, and Noi's Kopitiam.
    The business outlet rental agreements were handed over to the entrepreneurs by Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Ab Aziz Kaprawi.
    Speaking to reporters after the ceremony, Ab Aziz said 60 out of 169 retail shops at klia2 were operated by Bumiputera which represented a 35% participation.
    "This is commendable. It proved that opportunities for Bumiputera entrepreneurs at klia2 are rest assured," he said, adding that 20% of the retail outlets is still vacant, but it is for klia2 future development as the airport is only five-month old. – Bernama
