Azmin: Oktoberfest beer festival yet to be approved

SHAH ALAM: The organisers of Oktoberfest 2014, a beer festival, scheduled to be held for three days starting Friday, have yet to receive approvals from the relevant agencies.
Selangor Mentri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali (pix) said the cancellation or non-issuance of a permit to the organisers was still possible if they did not adhere to set guidelines.
"We have not received approvals for the festival from the agencies concerned, so if the organisers comply with the guidelines, the police and Customs will give the approvals.
"The organisers have to adhere to the guidelines issued by the local authority (Petaling Jaya City Council) for approval as well," he told reporters, here, Thursday.
He was commenting on the organising of the beer festival at a leading shopping centre in Petaling Jaya, near here.
Meanwhile, local government, legalising illegal factories and new village development committee chairman, Ean Yong Hian Wah, in a statement, denied that the state government had imposed additional conditions for the application of the festival's permit.
He said the application for a temporary entertainment permit was a normal process and the approval conditions set by the police and Customs were not new as well.
"Media reports Wednesday on the state government imposing additional conditions for Oktoberfest 2014 should be corrected.
"The conditions imposed by the local authorities are the same as in the years before and there are no new additional conditions.
"So, if the organisers comply with the same conditions, there is no reason why the permit will not be given," he said. – Bernama
