KUALA LUMPUR: Some politicians are using sensitive matters to gain political mileage by harping on racial issues, Malaysian Associated Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Maicci) president Tan Sri K. K. Eswaran said.
He said Malaysians must maintain moderation without being swayed by certain political parties which purposely stir racial and religious sentiments.
"We must be moderate as it is important. We have to remember that our nation's independence was achieved through the cooperation of different races," he told reporters at the Maicci Deepavali open house at the HGH Convention Centre here.
Also present were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak, his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor as well as Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Eswaran chided the opposition for using certain racial and religious issues to woo the votes of certain groups.
"This is all a sandiwara (drama) (by the opposition). I hope Malaysians will give the prime minister's good governance a chance," he said.
Eswaran also praised the government for the recent Budget 2015 as it covers the needs of all Malaysians regardless of their racial background.
