PUTRAJAYA: Minister in the Prime Minister Department Datuk Wee Ka Siong said the RM50 million allocation by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak to Small Medium Enterprises (SME) has slightly eased the financial burdens faced by the SMEs.
After chairing a dialogue session with 150 participants from 10 different SME organisations earlier today, Wee revealed that most of the participants welcomed Najib's announcement to assist them because all these while, SMEs always had problems in expanding their businesses due to the inability of securing bank loans.
"We understand that a bigger amount would definitely be needed in order to assist SME players to grow.
"The allocation which acts as a soft loan was quite timely because it acted as a morale booster, especially when Chinese SMEs were for the first time given priority and emphasis by the PM," he said, adding that KOJADI will be responsible in disbursing the loans.
KOJADI will be assisted by three other main organisations mainly the Federation of Malaysian Chinese Guilds Association, Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia and SME Association of Malaysia.
Wee believes that this would be a good joint venture between all those involved while reiterating that KOJADI will be open to everyone, regardless of race or religion.
On a separate matter, Wee said that he will continue to find a solution to solve the impact of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) towards sundry shop operators.
