Explosive device destroys car at residential area

TASEK GELUGOR: A car was destroyed when an unknown explosive device went off at a residential area here this afternoon.
The incident happened in front of a house at Taman Seri Gelugor, Jalan Tok Bedu Tasek Gelugor around 2.45 pm.
According to Penang CID chief SAC Mazlan Kesah, the car that was destroyed in the explosion belonged to a resident from the residential area.
Through a closed circuit television (CCTV) that was installed by the owner of the car, a man riding a motorcycle was seen stopping by the car prior to the explosion and smashing the car's windshield.
The man later threw something into the car and sped off. After few seconds, the car exploded.
"Police are reviewing the footage from the CCTV and will investigate the motive behind the incident," he said.
Mazlan adds that the case is being investigated under Section 6 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.
No one was injured in the incident.
