(Review) Left Behind

27 Oct 2014 / 18:45 H.

MILLIONS of people suddenly vanish and the world is plunged into chaos and destruction.
Among those still around is airline pilot Rayford Steele (Nicholas Cage), who tries to deal with his hysterical passengers as he wonders about his family.
He also has to try to land his plane when airports are filled with wrecks.
Unbeknownst to him, on the ground, his daughter Chloe (Cassi Thomson) is struggling to find her mother and brother, while another survivor Buck Williams (Chad Michael Murray), who is a journalist, is trying to understand this devastating event.
These people, who are atheists, then come to realise that the event is the Rapture as prophesied in the Bible where God returns to gather his people before the seven terrible years of the Great Tribulation.
If Cage was overacting in his other film, Outcast, he is definitely underacting in this one.
He looks just way too calm the whole time while dealing with disappearing people and trying to land the plane.
This, however, cannot be said for the rest of the cast who were channeling their inner Cage in terms of overacting.
Thomson is so terrible here, I don’t even know where to begin. Murray, meanwhile, looks bored the entire film.
It’s one of the worst cases of acting I’ve seen so far and it makes the film unintentionally funny along with the terrible dialogue and plot.
Christians might take offence at how devout Christians appear in the film. They are portrayed as crazy and preachy people, generally unlikeable.
Non-Christians, who are definitely not the target audience here, might find the film’s idea of the Rapture laughable.
There isn’t anything that’s interesting in this film to keep the audience entertained.
The main characters are put in a situation to find out what this mysterious occurrence is all about but the title of the film already gives the whole story away.
Overall, this film is just a waste of money.
