‘Theme park not our baby’

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Global Tourism (PGT), the state's tourism promotion arm, has denied suggestions that it has links to a water theme park at Batu Ferringhi.
PGT general manager Ooi Chok Yan said they are not associated with the Wet World Wild (WWW) park, which has been closed after some equipment were damaged by bad weather.
"PGT is not involved in the project, neither as a shareholder nor as an investor," she said in a statement today.
The denial comes after reports alleged PGT was a collaborator in the project at the popular tourist destination.
Penang Gerakan chairman Teng Chang Yeow reportedly called on the state administration to come clean on the matter.
The WWW park was opened in December last year but reportedly closed in mid-October after strong waves damaged park equipment.
Ooi urged Teng to show evidence that PGT was involved in the project.
She stressed that PGT is not in the business of running theme parks and had not suffered any financial losses, adding that the decision to continue with the operation depended on Theme Park Concepts and Services Sdn Bhd and to blame the state or PGT for business failures is unfair.
