KUALA LUMPUR: Nineteen disabled pupils from SMK Kelana Jaya, aged 13 to 19, were taken on a field trip to Zoo Negara today by students of Berjaya University College of Hospitality (UCH).
The university students, who organised the three-hour trip as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities, were from the Faculty of Culinary Arts.
"We wanted the disabled pupils to learn about wildlife in a fun way," said project director Amin Gibbs Mohd Saiful Gibbs.
The pupils, aged 13 to 19 and accompanied by nine teachers, were those with Down syndrome, dyslexia, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism and slow learners.
"We wanted the disabled pupils to learn about wildlife in a fun way," said Amin, adding that he hopes there will be more learning trips in future.
"All our hard work in realising this programme have paid-off and we are really happy," added Amin.
SMK Kelana Jaya special education head assistant Hananiah Yusof said she welcomed the initiative by Berjaya UCH as it is in line with extra curricular activities for the disabled.
