8 years' jail for nurse who used fake Malaysian ringgit

    KOTA BARU: A hospital nurse was sentenced to eight years' imprisonment by the Sessions Court here today for using 10 pieces of counterfeit RM100 as genuine.
    Nor Aziarina Ismail, 30, pleaded guilty to committing the offence in front of a fast food restaurant at Wakaf Che Yeh here at 9pm on Nov 22, 2013.
    She was charged under Section 489B of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine, upon conviction.
    According to the facts of the case, she had used the fake notes totalling RM1,000 to pay for an iPad that she bought from one Abdul Mu'iz Ahmad, 20.
    Judge Mohd Yusoff Yunus ordered the sentence to run from the date of her arrest on Dec 6 last year.
    The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Salam Yusof while Nor Aziarina was unrepresented. – Bernama
