'Rail' safer journey by train
KUALA LUMPUR: With the rising number of road accidents, many involving loss of lives, trains are comparatively a safer mode of transportation, said Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) senior manager of Operations and Development, Khair Johari Ishak.
"KTMB is also well prepared to meet the rapid weather changes too, especially during this recent heavy monsoon period," he said, adding that inspection and maintenance of railway tracks and coaches is done regularly to ensure smooth service and to avoid incidents.
He said this to reporters after officiating the Count & Win competition.
The competition, with prizes amounting to RM10,000, is organised by KTMB for its Electronic Train Service (ETS) passengers and will run till Dec 31.
Khair Johari said a total of 5.3 million passengers had been recorded using the ETS since it was launched on Aug 12, 2010.
The ETS plies the KL Sentral-Ipoh-KL Sentral route.
The entry forms for the competition can be collected at the ticketing counters of KTM Intercity stations nationwide or downloaded via www.ktmb.com.my.
