PM: Govt's moderate stand based on Islamic teaching

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak (pix) today refuted allegations by certain parties which linked the moderate stand of the government to liberalism.
He said the allegation was completely wrong as the moderate movement by the government was based on Islamic teachings as taught by Prophet Muhammad.
"The moderate movement is based on Islamic teachings as the Prophet said: Do good with sincerity and moderation, take the straight and moderate route so that you will reach the desired destination, heaven," he said in a PM's Radio Broadcast uploaded onto his blog NajibRazak.com today.
Najib fought for the moderate approach since 2010 on various global political conflicts including combating violence and the move had won the admiration of world bodies such as the United Nations and members of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), recently.
However some parties at home were disputing the approach and linking the moderate movement by the government to liberalism.
The Prime Minister said the moderate stand adopted by the government is actually based on moderation in life as practised by Prophet Muhammad.
In a 1 minute 35 seconds audio recording, Najib also reminded Muslims not to get caught up with groups of extremism and liberalism.
He said on the other hand, Muslims needed to follow the teaching on moderation propagated by Prophet Muhammad. – Bernama
