KUANTAN: A landslide was reported at Km4.2 of the road to Genting Highlands early today morning, closing the three-lane road to the resort.
Bentong district police chief Supt Mohamad Nor Mansor said police received information of the incident at 12.50am.
“An MPV of the Genting Highlands auxiliary police, which was surveying the area after receiving information on a landslide, was also buried by a second landslide, but no injuries were reported,” he said.
Mohamad Nor told Bernama currently, half of the road heading down is being used as a route to go up to Genting Highlands. He said work to break fallen boulders were still ongoing and a large quantity of earth had yet to be moved.
“Cleaning up is expected to take a day,” he added.
Meanwhile, in PETALING JAYA, Genting Malaysia Berhad (GENM) has assured that traffic flow on the Genting Highlands road is expected to return to normal by tomorrow following a mudslide this morning.
GENM said the incident occurred along an unused and uncut natural slope at the 4.2km of the Genting Highlands road. The natural slope is part of the untouched forest topography at Resorts World Genting which does not have habitation or activity within the vicinity of the natural slope.
A GENM spokesman said: “Our expert consultants have inspected the mudslide and measures to preserve and strengthen the slope are being put in place.”
GENM also stressed that it has instrumentations in place to monitor and record slope and building movement at Resorts World Genting, and the readings are analysed by expert consultants and reported on a monthly basis.
“Annually, GENM spends over RM4 million on monitoring and recording of slope and building movement, and on slope preservation, slope strengthening and retention,” it said.
