Azmin halts PAWS eviction

PETALING JAYA: Selangor Mentri Besar Azmin Ali has stepped in to halt the eviction of the PAWS Animal Welfare Society shelter in Jalan Lapangan Ara Damansara.
Though this does not mean that PAWS is now out of the red, it gives them some reprieve from the eviction notice that was sent to them on Nov 10.
"I will speak to the district office and see how the matter can be resolved," Azmin was quoted telling the media after an event with the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) yesterday evening.
The notice has been temporarily suspended due to Azmin's timely intervention and there will be a meeting between Selangor State Exco Elizabeth Wong and officers from the Petaling Land District Office this afternoon.
It is learned that the notice to PAWS was issued as the land that they are currently on has been handed over to the State by Sime Darby.
"The notice of eviction was issued because now the land belongs to the State and PAWS does not have the permission to occupy the land," a source from the State told theSun.
PAWS is hoping that they would get help to identify a suitable site for them to move to and a more realistic time frame, should it be deemed necessary for them to move their 600 over animals.
