Teoh Beng Hock's family submit memorandum calling for justice

KUALA LUMPUR: The family of the late Teoh Beng Hock has submitted a memorandum in Parliament today, calling for justice to be served for Teoh, who was found dead on July 16, 2009.
In the memorandum to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak and Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, they call on the police to act according to the court of appeal's ruling to probe and arrest the persons who caused Teoh's death.
The memorandum also called on the Attorney-General to charge those involved for culpable homicide under Section 304 of the Penal Code and for Najib to apologise for the failure and the incompetence of the Royal Commission of Inquiry and inquest set up by him to look into the death.
Copies of the memorandum were received by Minister in the Prime Minister's department Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim and Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin (PKR - Bukit Katil) on behalf of Najib and Anwar respectively.
Teoh's sister, Lee Lan expressed hope that those responsible for Teoh's death will be punished accordingly.
Teoh, who was the then political aide to Selangor state exco Ean Yong Hian Wah, was found dead on the rooftop of Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam in July 2009 after being brought there by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to be investigated by the commission.
An inquest was carried out into Teoh's death in 2010, which the coroner's court had said was an open verdict, ruling out suicide and homicide.
However, the court of appeal had overturned the verdict in September, ruled that the death resulted from an unlawful act by a person or persons unknown.
The police have since formed a taskforce to re- investigate the case.
