Floods in Terengganu worsen, more evacuated

KUALA TERENGGANU: The number of victims evacuated due to floods in Terengganu rose to 2,353 as at noon yesterday.
A state security council (MKN) statement said currently the five districts in Terengganu affected by floods are Kuala Terengganu, Hulu Terengganu, Setiu, Besut and Marang.
Kuala Terengganu recorded the highest number of 1,594 victims from 412 families, who were placed in 11 evacuation centres.
In Hulu Terengganu, 47 victims from 17 families were placed in three sites, while in Setiu, 32 victims from nine families were also moved to three centres.
In Marang, 677 victims from 163 families were placed at SK Rhu Sila and SMK Seri Payong.
A new evacuation centre has been set up in Besut at Kampung Beris Pak Abu to accomodate three families.
A Bernama survey at SK Kompleks Gong Badak showed the evacuation process went on smoothly, with most victims expressing their satisfaction at the services rendered.
Terengganu MKN acting secretary Roslina Ngah said all the main rivers in the state were still at normal level early yesterday except for Sungai Nerus in Kampung Langkap which recorded 22.54 metres, breaching the dangerous mark.
In KUANTAN, the number of flood victims in Pahang remained the same when six in a family from Kampung Cherating Baru here were evacuated after their house was under two metres high of water on Tuesday.
The victims, four men and two women, were evacuated to SRK Cherating at about 4pm. – Bernama
