KUALA LUMPUR: Fueled by concerns about stray animals, a special awareness programme called 'The Human Walking Programme', will be held on Nov 22 and 23 in Kuala Lumpur.
The programme is organised by IACT College final year students of Diploma in Mass Communication with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
IACT College in a statement yesterday said the campaign was to encourage the public to adopt pets rather than purchasing them from pet shops, which was in line with SCPA's goal to protect defenseless animals and to alleviate their suffering.
"There is a need for pet adoption because of the rise in the population of stray animals on the streets. About five million unwanted pets are put to sleep in Malaysian shelters each year, resulting in 575 animals being euthanised everyday," it said.
The two-day event would comprise of an adoption drive and a mini bazaar centered on pets and visitors. They can decide on adopting a variety of dogs and cats. The event to be held at Jaya One, Petaling Jaya, from 10am to 5pm would also highlight the health benefits of owning a pet. – Bernama
