1MDB spent RM383m on CSR activities

KUALA LUMPUR: Some RM383 million has been spent by 1Malaysia Development Berhad on various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities between 2010 and this year, Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan said today.
Among the projects carried out include sending some 2,300 people between 2011 and 2014 to fulfill their pilgrimage, which cost RM28.2 million, the tyre subsidy for taxi drivers under TR1MA 1.0 and 2.0 (RM76mil), 15 halfway houses for students in Sarawak (RM12 mil) and 1Malaysia mobile clinic (RM15.3 million).
He said the projects were carried out using funds from profits made by 1MDB since 2010, through the 1MDB Foundation - with several of the projects carried out with several other entities.
"For the past few weeks, 1MDB has been in the 'negative' spotlight by various quarters.
"Therefore, I am announcing the CSR programmes done by the group for the people since 2010," he told a press conference in Parliament lobby today.
He added that between 2010 and 2013, 1MDB has been making profits of between RM44 million and RM778 million, but only made losses of RM665 million this year.
"But the losses have been explained by 1MDB in the past," he said.
Over the past few weeks, several Opposition MPs have hit out at 1MDB over its poor performance and management, which incurred losses of up to RM38 billion.
