KUALA NERUS: Residents of Kampung Batu Rakit have been advised to use alternative roads to get in and out of the village after the coastal road leading to the village caved in at about 4am due to heavy rain.
The state's Public Works Department Road Division deputy director Zulamri Abu Bakar said the road would be closed and residents should use alternative roads.
"This is the secondary road and residents should use alternative roads to travel. We will monitor the situation," he told reporters here today adding that the motorists and the public must observe road signs to facilitate better traffic flow.
A resident of the village, Zamri Sulong, 30, said he was only aware of the road collapse at about 7am.
"I was shocked to find the road had collapsed and it could endanger the lives of residents. This incident makes it difficult for villagers as it is the main route for our daily activities," he said.
Meanwhile, Mazlan Mustafa, 46, said the incident was the first of its kind in the village.
"Before this, there was no road collapse during the flood season, and this incident has caused the water and electricity supply to be cut off as repair works are being carried out," he said. – Bernama
