IPOH: Perak created a new record in the Malaysia Book of Records when the state Community Development Department (Kemas) gathered 1,588 children for a mass 'selawat' (say praises for Prophet Muhammad) event at the Indera Mulia Stadium here last night.
The Malaysia Book of Records certificate was presented by State Rural Development, Plantation, Agriculture, Housing and Local Government committee chairman Datuk Saarani Mohamad to Perak Kemas director, Ahmad Kamal Idris Mohd Nawawi.
Ahmad Kamal Idris said the record was created based on the large participation and the children's ability to memorise the selawat.
"The event organised by the Perak Tabika Kemas emphasised on the aspect of human capital development and moral education through selawat and daily prayers," he told reporters after the programme.
Meanwhile, Saarani said the programme proved that allegations of Tabika Kemas' more worldly approach, such as training children to sing and dance, were untrue.
He added that there were 837 Tabika Kemas classes in the state with a total of 15,000 students. – Bernama
