'Falling' LRT beam no danger to Federal Highway motorists

    KUALA LUMPUR: The beam of the LRT Line Extension Project at the Federal Highway is physically safe and stable, stated Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana).
    Prasarana in a statement here today said it has brought down the gantry crane, which was in an abnormal position on Saturday evening, a situation that caused temporary traffic diversion along the Federal Highway.
    “The project’s spokesman said the contractor of the project who was conducting preparatory works for the lifting of segmental box girders, which was scheduled to be conducted later yesterday (Saturday) evening, noticed some thing wrong with the gantry crane on the pier.
    “A decision was made to bring the gantry crane down soonest in the interest of public safety, and traffic was temporarily diverted for the gantry crane to be brought down safely,” it said.
    Prasarana said traffic along the Federal Highway resumed to normal at about 8pm on Saturday.
    Meanwhile, Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) also clarified that the incident was not related to the MRT project.
    In a statement here today, the company said the incident was mistakenly associated to the Sungai Buloh - Kajang (SBK) Line of the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (KVMRT) project.
