Mechanical & Engineering Unit of PWTC conducts training for bomb detection

    KUALA LUMPUR: The Mechanical and Engineering Unit of the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) carried out training to handle bombing threats, fire prevention and floods as preparations in conjunction with the Umno General Assembly (UGA) 2014 which begins tomorrow.
    PWTC chief engineer, Zaidi Jamian said the training was conducted on Nov 4 with collaboration from the relevant agencies and authorities including the Fire and Rescue Department, Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the hospital.
    Zaidi said 80 workers comprising 48 permanent technical workers and 32 contract workers would be on duty throughout the general assembly.
    "All technical workers would be on standby 24 hours a day throughout the duration of the assembly," he said.
    He said that technical preparations had been carried out for the past three months. Several improvements have also been made, including upgrading the internet facilities and installing an additional 30km of wiring at all the assembly halls.
    A total of 5,739 Umno delegates from throughout the country are expected to attend the party's general assembly at the PWTC beginning tomorrow until Nov 29.
    Meanwhile, 1,452 media personnel from 106 local and foreign media agencies, the new media, including bloggers, and online news portals had begun reporting on the proceedings at the UGA 2014 from the 'Laman Media' (Media Centre) at the PWTC. – Bernama
